I believe I can fly. . . .

. . . I believe I can touch the sky.  I think about it every night and day.  Spread my wings and fly away. . . .  Remember that song from Robert Kelly.

I have always wanted to fly.  But at the age of 45, I have to say, I have never flown!  Can you believe that?!  I know I'm certainly not alone.  I've just never had any need to fly anywhere, so I have never had the privilege.  Some like it. Some don't.  I can say. .

Looking back to when I was a kid, I don't think that I ever dreamed of being an astronaut, or anything like that, I just wanted to fly.  Pretending to be a bird or an airplane and running through my backyard or my through my grandfathers field with my arms stretched out wide, leaning side to side.  Going full throttle!  Maybe you preferred to tie an old beat up blanket around your neck and pretend that you were Wonder Woman, (although you realize, the original Wonder Woman DC Comic character, couldn't actually fly.)  I never was a big fan of hers.  No, I preferred to pretend that I was Jamie Sommers, The Bionic Woman, but that's a whole 'nother story entirely.   I'm trying to stay on track here.

You remember though. Don't you.  I bet you did the same thing.  And if by chance you didn't do it, why don't you stop reading, take a moment and give it a try.  :)  We'll wait.  . . . .Now, don't you feel better.
Ok, that's enough of me being silly.  Let's get to the sketch.

My great nephew, Anthony is a HUGE fan of Buzz Lightyear.  And at the wonderfully, imaginative age of 3, he really thinks he can fly.  It's totally adorable. He even pushes the button on his chest to POP out his wings.  For those of you who have seen the movie, you know exactly what I'm talking about.  It's the cutest thing I've seen in a long time and even if I wanted to tell you all about it, I could never in a million years put it into words.  So trust me. . .it's Precious!

It appears that Sally has a dream of flying as well. She certainly has good form.  I think she's just about ready to take off.  I hope it didn't end in a crash landing. Bella, on the other hand, doesn't seem to be enjoying the game.  I guess she doesn't want to be like Snoopy and shoot down the Red Baron in her British WWI fighter plane.   She's just not feeling it. I think she prefers a commercial airliner flying somewhere nice like Disney World.  I'm with her. When do we leave?
I believe I can fly,
I believe I can touch the sky.
I think it about it every night and day.
Spread my wings and fly away.
- Robert Kelly

Are you singing the song now?  Sorry, but I had it stuck in my head the ENTIRE time I was sketching this.  And you know what they say.  Misery loves company. :)

Oh, and don't forget to vote in the poll.  You all get to choose what my next video tutorial will be about.

Until tomorrow. . .HAPPY FLYING!

  5. I can't believe you have never flown!!! But since I am married to a retired airline captain I guess I had more opportunities than most. I always wantted to learn to fly helicopters. Guess in another life. I love that song! My son sang it in a duet at his high school graduation! Holds a special place in my heart. And yes I do remember when we could fly to the moon and be back by dinner!!!

  6. Song permanently stuck in my head Thanks so much lol

Side note-your grandparent comment made me think-maybe this isnt on your radar at all but what about some images with a grandparent thrown in with Sally and Bella? My fondest memories include my grandparents- baking with Nana. Sitting doing puzzles or playing games with Grandpa or sitting beside him while he read my a story( and you know those all ended with a pic of Grandpa and child both asleep in the chair lol). Could honestly be a whole other sub theme... OH THE POSSIBILITIES!

Thanks again for another great image. You creativity is astounding! So many ideas!

  7. Well, I've flown more than my fair share, and it's the fastest way to get from there, but it sure isn't what it used to be.

Loved this memory and I'm guessing I'm the only one reading this besides your family that's actually been to Swoope, VA, and I have a picture of my DH standing in front of the P.O. there.

Love the idea of a grandparent with Sally and Bella too.
